A huge well done to all our Year 11 students and our Year 12 Sixth Form tutors who completed their first tutoring session ⭐

As part of our ongoing Maths and English intervention work, key Year 11 students have been paired with Year 12 tutors who achieved excellent GCSE results last year.

This peer support model is already making a real difference. Year 11 students are benefiting from personalised guidance from someone who has recently succeeded in the same exams and can share practical study habits and strategies. For Year 12s, it is a great opportunity to build leadership skills and deepen their own understanding by teaching others.

One Year 11 student said: “That session was great! Charlie explained exam structures and how to explode quotations to make them more understandable. As he got grades 8 and 9 in his GCSEs, he knows the paper really well!”

We are incredibly proud of everyone taking part and look forward to seeing the programme grow over the coming weeks.

The canteen treated everyone to a very special Fairground Feast Day and it went down a storm.

Students enjoyed hotdogs, burgers, loaded fries and plenty of sweet treats like popcorn. With bunting hanging all around, the atmosphere was full of excitement and fun.

It proved incredibly popular and we hear the canteen are already thinking about more special themed days… so watch this space 😊

Today, February 10th is Safer Internet Day.

This year’s theme is Smart tech, safe choices, supporting everyone to explore how AI can be used safely, responsibly and ethically in schools.

We believe AI should enhance learning and creativity while keeping children’s wellbeing at the centre. Human skills like curiosity, critical thinking and meaningful connection will always matter most.

To mark the day, we are sharing a video to help you understand generative AI. It supports children to navigate the world of AI, spot AI generated images and think critically about what they see online.

This week, we are proud to support Children’s Mental Health Week. It is an important reminder that every child’s wellbeing matters and that small moments of care, connection and encouragement can make a big difference.

At school, we offer a range of support for our children, including trusted adults to talk to, calm spaces when they need time to reset, wellbeing activities in class and opportunities to build friendships and confidence.

Here are a few simple ways families can support children at home:

➡️Make time to talk. Even five minutes of uninterrupted conversation can help children share how they feel.
➡️Keep routines steady. Predictable mornings, bedtimes and meal times help children feel secure.
➡️Celebrate small wins. Noticing strengths, effort and kindness boosts confidence.
➡️Encourage movement and fresh air. A short walk or playtime can lift mood and reduce stress.
➡️Model calm.

Children learn a lot from how we handle challenges, so showing calm and patience helps them do the same 💛

Together, we can help our children feel supported, confident and ready to thrive.

Year 9 have been getting creative in their English lessons, producing some brilliant Gothic inspired stories 👻

Students in 9A1 and 9L3 took part in a Cold Write, where they write in a specific genre without any preparation. It is a great way to show what they can do independently.

Mrs Watton said the work showed real ambition and some truly chilling moments. A fantastic sign of the thoughtful, creative writers these students are becoming as they move towards their GCSEs.

Well done to everyone who took part. Below is the picture they used to inspire their stories. Why not give it a go yourself?

Students in our Armed Forces Network Group met for their penultimate session with Katie from the Happiness Club ⭐

This week they explored what motivates people and took part in a hands on challenge to see how reward and praise influence effort.

Students worked in three groups. One group was told they would get a reward if they built the tallest structure, one group was told they would receive praise and the final group was told they would get nothing.

The results were really interesting. The reward and praise groups consistently produced the strongest attempts, while the group with no incentive were far less motivated to rebuild when things went wrong.

A simple but powerful reminder of how praise and recognition can inspire us to keep going. Well done to everyone who took part 👏

We are excited to share that we have secured funding from England Handball to bring a former Idsall student and now qualified handball coach into school each week.

Tom Williams will be coaching on Mondays from 3.15pm to 5.00pm, with the option for students to leave at 4.15pm if needed.

To keep this fantastic opportunity running, we do need a minimum number of students to take part.

If you’re interested, come along on Monday and get involved or speak to Mr Goodison in the PE Department 😊

Idsall staff and students were recently invited to Wear It Blue in honour of Will Davis 💙

Will was a close friend to several of our students and attended St Mary’s School in Albrighton. In December, Will sadly and very suddenly suffered a brain bleed and passed away.

Our school community came together beautifully. Many students arrived wearing blue and the generosity shown at the bake sale was incredible. Mrs Haynes tutor group raised the most on the morning, with almost every student in blue. At lunchtime, the bake sale was a huge success, with nearly every cake sold.

Thanks to the kindness of our students, families and staff, we raised an amazing £365.51. All proceeds have been given to Will’s family and will go towards memorial benches in his honour around Beckbury.

If anyone else would like to donate, you can do so here: www.gofundme.com/f/william-davis-beckbury-community-bench

Thank you to everyone who supported this special day 💙
